Helium Streamer lets you edit music metadata directly from the web app. There are two different kinds of "tagging" here - it's worth knowing the difference:


  • File tagging (below) - edits are written back to the actual audio file's tags (ID3v2, etc.), same as what the desktop Helium tag editor does.
  • Artist/label info (further down) - display metadata stored only in Helium's database, with no effect on any file.


Editing tags requires an account with tag-editing permission - this can be granted or restricted per user under Settings → Users.


Editing File Tags


Open an album and click the Edit Tags (pencil) icon to open the tag editor for every track on that album. The same dialog is used whether you're editing one track or many - with one track selected, it skips straight to a single form.


Editable fields: Title, Artist, Remix, Album, Genre, Year, BPM, Track # / Total Tracks, CD # / Total CDs, Release Type, Comment, Album Artist, Publisher, and Catalog No.


Note: Cover art can't be changed from Streamer - that still requires the desktop Helium app.


Bulk Edit


This is the default tab when editing more than one track. Fields show "Mixed" where tracks disagree, and whatever you type overwrites that field across every selected track. You can also:

  • Reorder tracks by dragging (useful before batch-numbering).
  • Turn on Auto-increment for Track # so each track gets the next number instead of the same one.


Track-by-Track (Premium)


Step through tracks one at a time instead of editing them all at once. Any field you lock (pin icon) carries its value forward automatically as you move to the next track - handy for filling in shared fields like Album Artist or Genre across many tracks without retyping them each time.


Auto-Capitalization


If you turn on the Capitalizer toggle in the dialog, text fields are automatically corrected to proper capitalization as soon as you click away from them (e.g. fixing "the RETURN of the king" → "The Return of the King"). Basic capitalization works for everyone; customizing exactly how it capitalizes (which words to skip, custom delimiters) requires Premium. This is also configurable by default under Settings → Capitalizer.


What Actually Happens on Save


Saving updates Helium's database immediately, and also rewrites the tags in the actual audio file on disk. If the file itself can't be written for some reason (for example, some formats aren't writable outside Windows), the change is still saved to the database and the track is flagged for the file to be reconciled later - so you won't lose the edit, but the file on disk may briefly lag behind.


Artist/Label Info (Database Only - Premium)


Separately from file tags, Settings → Country Flags lets you manually assign or override the country flag shown next to an artist's name throughout the app. This is purely a display setting stored in Helium's database - it does not touch any audio file, doesn't require the tag-editing permission (only a Premium license), and has no effect outside of what's shown in the Streamer interface itself.
