Year Insights
Year Insights gives you a visual overview of your music library through the lens of release years. Use it to rediscover albums from a particular era, spot trends across decades, and explore your collection in a new way. There are two surfaces: a library-wide Year Insights page that covers your entire collection, and a per-year Insights tab that focuses on a single selected year.
Library-Wide Year Insights Page
The library-wide Year Insights page summarises your entire collection by release year. It requires a Premium licence — if your account is not Premium, a “Premium Required” overlay will appear instead of the page content.
Opening Year Insights
- Click View in the menu bar.
- Select Insights, then Year Insights.
Alternatively, open the Years view and click the light bulb (Insights) button on the toolbar.
Spotlight Year
The Spotlight Year card features a randomly selected release year from your library. It displays:
- A 2×2 collage of album artwork from that year.
- The year number — click it to navigate to that year in the Years view.
- A subtitle showing the number of releases and tracks for that year (for example, “12 releases · 147 tracks”).
Click Shuffle to randomly select a different year.
KPI Cards
Six summary tiles give you an at-a-glance overview of your library:

| Peak Decade | The decade containing the most albums (e.g. “1990s”) | Display only |
| Avg / Year | Average number of album releases per year, to one decimal place | Display only |
Rediscover
The Rediscover section shows six randomly selected albums from a single randomly chosen year. The section heading displays the chosen year — click it to navigate to that year in the Years view.
- Click an album card to open that album’s detail page.
- Click an artist name on a card to open the Artist Details page for that artist.
- Click Shuffle to pick a different year and refresh the six albums.
Artists by Era

Per-Year Insights Tab
When you select an individual year in the Years view, an Insights tab appears alongside the track list. This tab focuses entirely on the selected year.
Spotlight Album
The Spotlight Album card features a randomly selected album from the selected year. It displays:
- The album’s cover art.
- The album name — click it to open the Album Details page.
- The artist name — click it to open the Artist Details page.
- The release year.
Click Shuffle to randomly select a different album from the same year.
KPI Cards
Six tiles summarise the selected year. All tiles on this tab are for display only.
- Albums — number of albums released in this year.
- Artists — number of distinct artists with releases in this year.
- Tracks — total number of tracks from this year.
- Hours Unlistened — combined duration of tracks from this year that you have never played, shown in hours.
- Top Genre — the most common genre across this year’s albums.
- Total Plays — the all-time play count for all tracks from this year.
Rediscover
Six randomly selected albums from the selected year.
- Click an album card to open that album’s detail page.
- Click an artist name on a card to open the Artist Details page for that artist.
- Click Shuffle to refresh the selection with six different albums from the same year.
Top Artists
A bar chart ranking up to 10 artists by track count for the selected year. Click any bar to navigate to that artist’s detail page.
Top Genres
A bar chart ranking up to 10 genres by track count for the selected year. Click any bar to open the Genre view for that genre.
