When Helium Streamer Launcher can't set up port forwarding automatically, you'll see:

Could not automatically configure port forwarding. You may need to forward port {port} to this computer manually on your router.

This can happen for two independent reasons - automatic setup involves two steps, and either one can fail:

  1. Router/UPnP step - Streamer asks your router to open the port automatically (UPnP). This fails if your router doesn't support UPnP, has it disabled, or already has that port mapped to something else.
  2. 2. Local firewall step - Streamer also adds a Windows Firewall rule for the port on this computer. If this step fails, it currently isn't reported separately - so it's worth checking manually even if the router step seemed to work.

Fix 1: Enable UPnP on your router

Check your router's admin settings for a UPnP option and make sure it's turned on, then try the Test button on the Launcher's General page again.

Fix 2: Forward the port manually

If your router doesn't support UPnP, or automatic setup still fails after enabling it:

  • Look up your router model at portforward.com for step-by-step instructions.
  • Forward the port shown on the Launcher's General page to this computer's local address.

Fix 3: Check the Windows Firewall

Even after the router is configured correctly, double-check that Windows Firewall isn't still blocking the connection:

  • Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security and confirm there's an inbound rule allowing the Streamer port.
  • If not, add one manually, or try running the Launcher as Administrator and testing again - firewall changes can silently fail without elevated permissions.

Still not working?

Confirm your ISP is giving you a public IP address (some connections use carrier-grade NAT, which blocks incoming connections entirely regardless of router settings) - your router's status page will usually show whether its WAN IP is public.
