(New in Helium 17.3, Premium)

This tool assists you in tagging multiple albums using Discogs as the source for track-level tags on each album.

The tool is especially useful for quickly tagging:

  • Albums that are not yet tagged.
  • Albums that are tagged but may contain typos or lack Discogs IDs.

Discogs IDs are always saved to the tagged albums, both in tags and in the Library. This feature is highly useful for faster and more accurate downloading of album and artist pictures, as well as artist information for one or multiple artists.

Generating a List of Albums

When you start the tool, it will generate a list of unique albums based on the underlying tracks from the view you launch it from.

If you start it from a track-list-based view, it will fully respect selections and track filters applied in your active column filters.

Selecting Albums to Work With

The first view you see presents an overview of albums selected for auto-tagging.

  • Checkmarked albums will be processed.
  • You can exclude items directly from the list by unchecking the box next to each album.
  • By default, all items are selected.

To the right of this step, options are available to control how items are processed and which tag information is saved:

  • Compare preview items with source – Compares the selected item with the original tags, visually highlighting differences to help you select the correct match.
  • Accept only exact matches – Skips downloaded items with multiple results unless an exact match is found.
  • Save only Discogs IDs – Saves only Discogs release and artist IDs to tags, leaving other tags unchanged.
  • Save all tags – Overwrites all existing tags with the downloaded tags.
  • Save specific tags – Saves only the selected tags (checkmarked in the list below) to tags, overwriting any existing content.

Processing the Selected Albums

To start the automatic tagging process, click OK.

  • If an album release contains a catalog number or barcode, this data will be used as the primary input for the Discogs search to find the optimal match.
  • If no catalog number or barcode is present, the search will use the album artist and album name.

Matching Process

  1. Exact Matches
If an exact match is found, it will be applied automatically, and the process will continue without interruption.
  2. Multiple Matches
If multiple matches are found, you will see a preview step where you can select the correct match for each album.

This preview step consists of three sections:

  1. A list of matches from Discogs. Select one match to preview its details in section two.
  2. A preview pane showing the selected match as rendered on Discogs. Use this to confirm it matches the album in your library.
  3. An album preview displaying the album and its tracks as stored in Helium's library.

Note: If Compare preview items with source is enabled, Helium will visually compare the selected match with the album in its library and highlight differences for each track.

Final Steps

  • Click Select to confirm the match and proceed to the next album in the queue.
  • Click Cancel to skip the current album without saving any tags.
  • Click Cancel All to stop the entire process.

When all albums have been processed, Helium will close the window.
