Introduction

The Genre Relations tab appears when you select a genre in the Genres view. It gives you a visual overview of the artists, record labels, and release years most associated with that genre — based on the tracks in your library. Use it to quickly discover which artists or labels dominate a particular genre in your collection.

Opening Genre Relations

  1. Go to the Genres view in Helium.
  2. Select a genre from the list.
  3. Click the Relations tab in the tab bar.

Data loads automatically each time you select a genre while the Relations tab is active.

What Genre Relations Shows

Genre Relations displays three groups of items connected to the selected genre through your tracks:

  • Artists (purple) — the top 20 artists with the most tracks tagged with this genre.
  • Labels (amber) — the top 20 record labels with the most tracks tagged with this genre.
  • Years (teal) — the top 20 release years with the most tracks tagged with this genre.

Note: Genre Relations does not show relationships between genres. It shows the artists, labels, and years most strongly associated with a single genre through your track collection.

The Diagram

The left side of the tab displays an interactive diagram:

  • The selected genre appears as a large circle in the centre, marked with a music note icon and the genre name.
  • The three groups radiate outward from the centre in separate sectors: Artists to the left, Labels to the top-right, and Years to the bottom-right.
  • Each item appears as a coloured circle connected to the centre by a line. Hovering over a circle shows a tooltip with the name and track count (for example, Rock · 34 tracks).
  • A legend in the top-left corner lists all three groups with their item counts (for example, ARTISTS 20 of 47). Click a group in the legend to show or hide it. All groups are visible by default.
  • If the selected genre has no associated data, the diagram displays: No connections found for [genre name].

The Side Panel

A scrollable panel on the right side of the tab shows the same information as the diagram. Items are grouped under ARTISTS, LABELS, and YEARS headings and displayed as badge pills. Hovering over a badge shows a tooltip with the name and track count.

Navigating from Genre Relations

Clicking an item in either the diagram or the side panel takes you directly to more detail:

  • Artist — opens that artist’s detail page.
  • Label — opens that label’s detail page.
  • Year — opens the Years view filtered to that release year.

Read-Only Information

The Relations tab is entirely read-only. All connections are derived automatically from your track library. You cannot add, edit, or remove them manually.
