Year Relations

The Relations tab in the Years view gives you a quick overview of how a particular release year connects to the rest of your music library. Select any year and switch to the Relations tab to see the top artists, genres, and record labels associated with that year — all drawn directly from the tracks you have in Helium.

Usage

The Relations tab is available whenever you are browsing the Years view. To open it:

  1. Open the Years view in Helium.
  2. Select a release year from the list.
  3. Click the Relations tab in the tab bar.

Helium loads the data automatically. If you switch to a different year while the tab is already open, the display refreshes to reflect your new selection.

The tab shows three groups of items linked to the selected year through your tracks:

  • Artists — the top 20 artists with the most tracks from that year.
  • Genres — the top 20 genres with the most tracks from that year.
  • Labels — the top 20 record labels with the most tracks from that year.

The Diagram

The left side of the tab displays a visual diagram. The selected year appears as a large circle in the centre. The three groups radiate outward from it in three equal segments:

  • Artists (purple) — to the left.
  • Genres (green) — to the top right.
  • Labels (amber) — to the bottom right.

Artists and labels appear as circular photo nodes. Genres appear as music-note icon circles. Hover over any node to see a tooltip showing the name and the number of tracks from that year.

A legend at the bottom left of the diagram lists all three groups along with their counts — for example, “ARTISTS 20 of 47”. Click a group name in the legend to show or hide that group in the diagram.

The Side Panel

The right side of the tab shows a scrollable panel listing the same artists, genres, and labels as badge pills, grouped under ARTISTS, GENRES, and LABELS headings. Hover over any badge to see the name and track count.

Navigating from Relations

Clicking a node in the diagram or a badge in the side panel takes you directly to more detail:

  • Artist — opens that artist’s detail page.
  • Genre — opens the Genres view filtered to that genre.
  • Label — opens that label’s detail page.

Notes

The Relations tab is read-only. Helium builds the connections automatically from your track library — no manual editing is required or possible.
